FAQs

Are electric baby swings safe for newborns?

Electric baby swings can be safe for newborns when used correctly. The Allta Auto Swing provides adequate head and neck support, which is especially important for newborns since they lack the strength to hold up their heads. Opt for swings that offer a reclined position to reduce the risk of airway obstruction. Additionally, always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for age and weight limits to ensure safety.

Can a baby sleep in an electric swing?

If your baby may fall asleep in a swing, it is not recommended to let them sleep there for extended periods. It is advised to move your baby to a flat, firm and safe sleep surface, like a crib or bassinet, as swings do not meet safe sleep standards.

How long can a baby stay in a swing?

Experts recommend limiting a baby’s time in a swing to no more than 30 minutes per session and no more than an hour per day. Prolonged use of swings can contribute to developmental issues, including delayed motor skills and positional plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome). It's essential for babies to spend time in various positions, like tummy time, to support their physical development. Babies need time outside of the swing to practise motor skills like rolling, sitting, and crawling.

What safety features should I look for in an electric baby swing?

When selecting an electric baby swing, look for key safety features such as sturdy construction and a 3-point harness to keep the baby secure. Always place the swing on a flat surface and ensure that it does not have any loose parts or damage. Regularly inspect the swing for wear and tear to prevent accidents.

At what age can a baby start using an electric swing? When do they need to stop using it?

Babies can generally start using an electric swing from birth, provided the swing is designed for newborns and offers adequate head and neck support with a reclining option. However, always check the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure the swing is suitable for your baby's age and weight.

Most baby swings can be used up until the baby reaches a specific weight limit. The Allta Auto Swing in particular is designed to hold up to 9 kg. Babies should stop using the swing when they can sit up on their own or attempt to climb out, as this increases the risk of injury.
